Contrary to our findings, in a 6-week randomized controlled trial, Dugan et al. found a significant reduction in ALT, AST, hepatic steatosis index, and mRNA expression of IL-6 and IL-1β in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), following the consumption of 3 daily servings of low-fat dairy (296 mL 1% milk, 170 g non-fat yogurt, 56.7 g 2% cheese) as compared with isocaloric carbohydrate-based control foods (26). The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is fatty liver disease.
