Patients with CKD who fracture because of low-grade trauma, in accordance with the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) classification, present a CKD-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD); this latter is a systemic disorder of mineral and bone metabolism manifested by either one or a combination of the following: vascular or other soft tissue calcification; abnormalities of calcium, phosphorus, parathyroid hormone (PTH), or vitamin D metabolism; or abnormalities in bone turnover, mineralization, volume, linear growth, or strength (5). This evidence concerns the gene PTH and kidney disorder.
