In one study of cardiac disease in Wistar rats, a combined treatment of taurine and beta-alanine had dramatic effects on markers of oxidative stress and inflammation, increasing activity of glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase by more than 175% and reducing serum levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin-6 (IL-6) by nearly 60% [42]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is heart disorder.
