Signaling via adenosine receptors, ADORA2A or ADORA2B, stimulates proton secretion by α‐ICs (Battistone et al., 2018); thus adenosine production in pyelonephritis‐induced tissue injury may trigger dysregulated urine acidification leading to systemic alkalosis as is the case in GPR116 or ADGRF5‐deficient mice (Zaidman et al., 2020). Here, ADGRF5 is linked to pyelonephritis.
