Inflammasome activation has also been implicated in the development of MIS-C, with increased RNA expression of several inflammasome-related genes in MIS-C and KD (34) – including IL1B, CASP1 and CASP5, all of which were up-regulated in our cohort (Figure 1A). The gene discussed is CASP1; the disease is COVID-19–associated multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
