We compared effects on each IgG subclass given that, according to the quartet model of murine IgG function [75], murine IgG subclasses likely work together to clear infections as follows: Th-independent IgG3 and IgG2b ensure activation of inflammation and FcγR-mediated effector functions (IgG2b only) during the early stages of infection, whereas Th-dependent IgG2a (IgG2c in C57BL/6 mice) and IgG1 increase pathogen clearance and limit IgG-driven inflammation, respectively, during the later stages of infection.
