Several studies have demonstrated that miRNA expression is also associated with GDM occurrence, and aberrant expression of miRNA in human placenta gives rise to the pathogenesis of GDM, such as miR-296, whose expression is improperly down-regulated in placenta with GDM in clinic and affects human placental development through the alterations in migration and invasion of trophoblast cells by regulating HIF3A [170]. Here, HIF3A is linked to gestational diabetes.
