SLC5A2 and Hyperglycemia: SGLT2 is upregulated in hyperglycemia and results in increased the reabsorption of sodium in the proximal tubule via the sodium–glucose co-transporter, which in turn leads to the low sodium concentration in the macula densa and activates tubuloglomerular feedback, causing the vasodilation of afferent arterioles and increased intraglomerular pressure and filtration; SGLT2 inhibitors reverse these changes, improve sodium and fluid retention, and reduce intraglomerular pressure [91].
