EDN1 and preeclampsia: In pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia, the maternal blood contains a plethora of factors released by the dysfunctional placenta that contribute to vascular dysfunction, such as antiangiogenic factors (including soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) and soluble endoglin (sENG)), vasoconstrictors (including endothelin-1 (ET-1)), and proinflammatory factors (including tumor necrosis factor).
