A study by Kirpich and collaborators observed an increased level of some biomarkers, such as ALT and AST levels, CK18 M65 and CK18 M30, and reduced levels of flagellin in ALD females compared to males, suggesting that females are more susceptible to ALD than males, probably because of a different adaptation to chronic alcohol-induced changes in gut permeability [103]. This evidence concerns the gene KRT18 and alcohol drinking.
