CD163 and cervical carcinoma: CD163 is a favorable tumor marker for predicting the malignant transformation and metastatic potential of cervical cancer [18].After M1 macrophages encounter squamous cell cervical carcinoma cells, they undergo the transformation from M1 phenotype to M2 phenotype due to the lactate secreted by cervical cancer cells (cancer cells prefer lactate metabolism over glucose metabolism and therefore maintain slightly acidic TME) that promotes the progression of cervical cancer [19].
