Shi-Wei Yang et al. found that after hypoxia treatment, compared with normoxic controls, some GCSCs significantly exhibited the increased expression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α), increased migration and invasion abilities, and up-regulated HIF-1α that caused GC recurrence and metastasis by activating Snail [93]. The gene discussed is HIF1A; the disease is gastric cancer.
