GRIN2B and ischemia: As GluN2B-composing NMDA receptors are largely associated with the extrasynaptic NMDA receptors [33], and related to harmful outcomes during ischemia [13,14], a reduction in these receptors in the NMDA complex may result in a decreased excitotoxicity during ischemia, while retaining the ability of the NMDA receptor to perform physiological functions.
