“The finding of greater numbers of T lymphocytes, B lymphocytes, and eosinophils in the lungs in SIDS compared to controls suggests that an abnormal or inappropriate inflammatory response had occurred in association with SIDS, an accumulation consistent with expression of the cytokines interleukin 4, interleukin 5, and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor which are associated with TH2 helper cell phenotype”. This evidence concerns the gene IL5 and sudden infant death syndrome.
