CD8A and cancer: In healthy individuals, acute exercise mobilizes mature and cytotoxic CD56dim NK and CD8+ T cells in an intensity-dependent manner and improves NK cell cytotoxic activity (NKCA) against certain cancer cell lines (Pedersen and Hoffman-Goetz, 2000; Campbell et al., 2009; Simpson et al., 2007, 2008; Zimmer et al., 2017; Rumpf et al., 2021), thus indicating strengthened anti-cancer immunity during and potentially also following exercise.
