As observed amongst the venous blood cohort, the magnitude of the SARS-CoV-2-specific interferon-gamma (IFN-γ)-positive T cell response measured in capillary blood samples was significantly lower in those reporting a positive COVID-19 diagnostic test than uninfected donors (P = 0.034; Fig. 4a), due to relatively poor induction of T cell responses by vaccination and/or prior infection (Supplementary Fig. 11). The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is infection.
