INS and Parkinson disease: Many other amyloidogenic proteins besides insulin exist34, some of which are functional amyloids35–37 which support natural biological functions while others are related to disease, such as the beta amyloid38–41 and tau42,43 proteins of Alzheimer’s disease, alpha-synuclein44,45 of Parkinson’s disease, infectious prion46,47 proteins, and the islet protein48–50 involved in type 2 diabetes.
