The misfolding and uncontrolled aggregation of alpha synuclein (αS), an important component of Lewy bodies, is linked to the onset and progression of PD.[8] Human serum albumin (HSA) slows the aggregation of αS significantly.[9] Also, the toxicity of aS oligomers can be inhibited by HSA.[10] In this context, it is reasonable to assume that baseline albumin levels may be related to the prognosis of PD. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and Parkinson disease.
