Among others, the analysis of Kim et al. (2020) in postmortem tissue samples of ALS patients and induced pluripotent stem cells interestingly showed an accumulation of DNA damage like single-stranded DNA and 8-oxoguanin as well as an increased recruitment of the DNA damage and repair components like ATM Serine/Threonine Kinase (ATM) and Breast Cancer Anti-Estrogen Resistance 1 Cas Family Scaffold Protein (BCRC1). The gene discussed is MARK2; the disease is medical procedure.
