On the contrary, AIM2 gene is required to restrain the progression of colon cancer through an inflammasome-independent manner, proliferation control of intestinal stem cells, and the regulation of gut microbiota, suggesting that AIM2 gene plays a protective role in colorectal cancer (Wilson et al., 2015; Zhang Z. et al., 2017).
