VCAM1, a member of the Ig superfamily, encodes a cell surface salivary gland glycoprotein expressed by endothelial cells, whose main function is to participate in cell adhesion and signaling, and possibly in neurodegenerative diseases of diabetes (Willeit et al., 2017; Kong et al., 2018; Niedzielski et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene VCAM1 and neurodegenerative disease.
