The brain pathology of LSDs also overlaps with other neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases as the patients with Niemann-Pick type C exhibit neurofibrillary tangles commonly observed in Alzheimer’s disease patients [4–7], and the glucocerebrosidase gene mutation seen in Gaucher’s disease is also the major risk factor for Parkinson’s disease [8–10]. The gene discussed is GBA1; the disease is Parkinson disease.
