Using a mild TBI model, presenting high axonal injuryand activation of microglia, CB2 was upregulated and treatmentwith selective inverse agonist SMM-189 produced beneficial anti-inflammatoryeffects.37 In several neuropathologiesthat are accompanied by neuroinflammation, including multiple sclerosis(MS), Down’s syndrome, and viral encephalitis, there is selectiveoverexpression of CB2 in microglia,38 further supporting this hypothesis. This evidence concerns the gene CNR2 and Down syndrome.
