CNR2 and multiple sclerosis: Using a mild TBI model, presenting high axonal injuryand activation of microglia, CB2 was upregulated and treatmentwith selective inverse agonist SMM-189 produced beneficial anti-inflammatoryeffects.37 In several neuropathologiesthat are accompanied by neuroinflammation, including multiple sclerosis(MS), Down’s syndrome, and viral encephalitis, there is selectiveoverexpression of CB2 in microglia,38 further supporting this hypothesis.
