Importantly, owing to a general repressive effect of CSP on ERG gene expression, our data underscore the need to revisit the combinatorial therapeutic regimen, which involves treatment of fungal infections with echinocandins along with other ergosterol-targeting drugs, polyenes (bind to ergosterol in the cell membrane), allylamines (inhibit squalene epoxidase, encoded by ERG1), or azoles (64, 65). This evidence concerns the gene ERG and fungal infectious disease.
