Previous evidence shows that missense mutations at TP53 gene were more frequent in patients with Schistosoma japonicum-induced rectal cancer than in non-schistosomiasis rectal cancer, whereas Schistosoma mansoni targets p53 altering its expression and may cause somatic mutations in BCL2 and C-Myc oncogenes inducing colorectal cancer (van Tong et al., 2017). This evidence concerns the gene MYC and rectal cancer.
