While CXCL4 has been amply characterized by us and others as a pro-atherogenic platelet chemokine, in part also via its intriguing capacity to hetero-oligomerize with CCL5 [14, 59], very little is known about the role of CXCL4L1 in chronic inflammatory diseases and atherosclerosis. The gene discussed is PF4V1; the disease is atherosclerosis.
