For treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS), tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is the only thrombolytic drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but its clinical use is limited by a strict time window (within 4.5 hours of stroke onset), the high risk of cerebral hemorrhage transformation (HT) after thrombolysis, and high death rate following HT [4].
