ALB and nosocomial infection: In a randomized clinical trial involving ICU patients with circulatory failure and with serum albumin lower than 20 g/L, the continuous infusion of 4% albumin was associated with a significant decrease in both site colonization (4 vs 12 episodes; p = 0.035), and nosocomial infections number (2 vs 13 episodes; p = 0.002) when compared to controls infused with hyperoncotic albumin.
