In a study, GDM was detected at a rate of 20.4% in patients with high first trimester Body Mass Index (BMI), while it was observed at a rate of 12.6% in patients with a normal BMI.[6] In another study, more GDM was found in patients with high BMI and insulin therapy was more needed in these patients because of GDM.[7] Similar to the literature, we showed that both being overweight/obese before pregnancy and increased BMI during pregnancy are important risk factors for the development of GDM. Here, INS is linked to gestational diabetes.
