FN1 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: Liu et al. (2020) reported that the expression level of FN1 is also correlated with a poor HNSCC prognosis and that p62/SQSTM1 may participate as an autophagy adapter in the autophagy-lysosome pathway for FN1 degradation. Mechanistically, fibronectin, which is mainly secreted by cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), is reorganized by CAFs through increased contractility and traction forces. This reorganization ultimately promotes CAF–cancer cell interactions and leads to directional cancer cell migration (Erdogan et al., 2017).
