A co-culture model, containing macrophages and ovarian cancer cells, demonstrates that versican V1, a chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan produced by ovarian cancer cells, can induce hCAP18/LL-37 overexpression in macrophages through activation of toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and TLR6 and subsequent vitamin D-dependent mechanisms, leading to proliferation and invasiveness of ovarian cancer cells. Here, CAMP is linked to ovarian carcinoma.
