Immunosuppressive effects are maintained, aside from others, by the increased cell surface expression of immune checkpoint proteins (ICP) such as cytotoxic T-lymphocyte associated protein 4 (CTLA4) or programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) that counteract T-cell mediated tumor cell surveillance (for a review, see [11]). The gene discussed is CTLA4; the disease is neoplasm.
