Curcumin can target cancer cells due to its direct effect on cell death machinery, cell cycle proteins and survival signaling pathways such as phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt), nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB), mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), Wingless-related integration site (Wnt)-Beta catenin (β-catenin), and Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription-3 (STAT-3) [27]. Here, STAT3 is linked to cancer.
