CFTR and cystic fibrosis: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a multi‐organ disorder caused by mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene and characterized by life‐threatening acute and chronic airway infection, inflammation, and airway remodeling (Welsh et al., 2019, Ratjen et al., 2015, Elborn, 2016, Stoltz et al., 2015).
