ZDHHC5 is a palmitoyltransferase that interacts with the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein and mediates its palmitoylation.41 Palmitoylation of viral proteins is known to be involved in virus assembly and infection.42 Interestingly, the ubiquitination of the four lysine sites on ZDHHC5 was all increased during SARS-CoV-2 infection (Fig. 3e), which may be important for the regulation of ZDHHC5 activity.
