IGF1 and autosomal recessive disease: Interestingly, lower cancer rates have been observed in individuals with Laron syndrome, a rare autosomal recessive inherited disease with growth hormone receptor mutation (GHRD) in which affected individuals have decreased serum IGF-1 levels and severely reduced body stature with an average adult height of approximately 118 cm in females and 124 cm in males (Laron et al. 1993).
