In light of the disclosures regarding the candidature of cathepsin L as a COVID-19 drug target, an exhaustive exploration of marine natural product gallinamide A and its synthetic analogues was carried out by Ashhurst et al. Resultantly, some potent inhibitors of cathepsin L (120–123) were identified that markedly inhibited SARS-CoV-2 infection. The gene discussed is CTSL; the disease is COVID-19.
