In this study, TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 levels were upregulated in the lung of DIO mice; however, IL-10 level was unaffected by either periodontitis or obesity, which implicates the imbalance of the pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokine protein status of the lung lesion in obese mice coupled with periodontitis. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
