GRIN1 and encephalitis: Anti–N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is an auto-immune neurological disorder first identified in 2007 (Dalmau et al., 2019), and characterised by the presence in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of antibodies against the GluN1 subunit of the NMDA receptors in the brain (Florance et al., 2009; Irani et al., 2010; Dalmau et al., 2019).
