The administration of recombinant IL-15 has been reported to accelerate the anti-tumor activity of cytotoxic T cells in mice (72) and recent reports have shown that IL-15 can polarize T cells to central memory and stem cell memory subtypes rather than the effector subtype and thereby prevent the upregulation of inhibitory receptors associated with T-cell exhaustion during ex vivo expansion (73–75).
