Monocytic morphology, blasts with cup like nuclear invaginations, and dim CD34 expression are all associated with NPM1‐mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML); the findings are relatively nonspecific and definite diagnosis relies on demonstration of NPM1 mutations that result in aberrant cytoplasmic localization of the NPM1 protein. This evidence concerns the gene CD34 and acute myeloid leukemia.
