By examining the laboratory data of patients enrolled in our study and Iida et al., we found that our OSCC cohort had a 3.6-fold higher median serum CRP level compared with that of patients with HCC reported by Iida et al. (0.36 vs. 0.10 mg/dL) 17, which can be partially explained by increased oral and systemic inflammation resulting from oral microbiota 49. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
