Participants with NAFLD were elder, more likely to be men, inactive and ever smoker, more non-Hispanic White or Hispanic, had more severe liver steatosis and fibrosis, higher BMI and WC, higher total cholesterol, triglyceride, fasting glucose, HbA1c, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT), and had lower HDL-cholesterol levels (p < 0.05 for each).
