There was a significant increase in the fT3/fT4 ratio in the SCH group in our study, which we know to represent the adaptive mechanism of the thyroid axis due to increased activity of deiodinase 2 (D2), which mediates T4 to T3 conversion, as well as due to higher TSH-induced increase of T3 synthesis and secretion from the thyroid gland [24]. Here, DIO2 is linked to spindle cell hemangioma.
