HSPA1A and Heat Stroke: Circulating HSP72 is released not only with heat stress and fever but also with infection including sepsis, acute myocardial infarction, trauma, atherosclerosis, renal failure, sickle cell anemia, hypertension, and other stressors including aging [54,131-133]. Procalcitonin, a marker of the severity of sepsis, bacterial infection, and inflammation (including heat stroke), has been reported to be elevated in case reports of neuroleptic malignant syndrome [134,135].
