Confounding variables associated with CKD (such as albuminuria, CKD stage and measures of kidney function) were not widely reported in heart failure studies, and vice versa; baseline heart failure, left ventricular ejection fraction, New York Heart Association class and N-type brain natriuretic peptide (NTpro-BNP) were not widely reported in CKD studies (Supplementary Table 5a, b).
