Ocular ischemia is a typical symptom of diseases which affect the blood vessels of the eye such as occlusions, diabetic retinopathy (DR), or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) [3–5] and results in pathological changes of the vessels, VEGF overexpression, ocular neovascularization, growth of leaky vessels, and tissue damage. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
