Studies have found that STING is associated with AP, in which the DNA released by the dying acinar cells activates STING in macrophages, and STING drives the formation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and type I interferon to worsen AP-associated inflammation (Palmai-Pallag and Bachrati, 2014; West and Shadel, 2017; Picca et al., 2018; Zhao et al., 2018; Sundar et al., 2021) (Figure 2).
