CNR2 and schizophrenia: While more studies are needed to elucidate the utility of targeting CB2 in schizophrenia, the functional expression of these receptors in key brain circuits that are dysregulated in schizophrenia, combined with the anti-inflammatory properties of CB2 receptor activation, make selectively targeting this receptor an intriguing target for treating a disease where novel interventions that move beyond dopamine receptor antagonists are desperately needed.
