This protective effect is probably associated with the significant inhibition of IL-6 expression by Se-PEG-PPG hydrogel; as a typical proinflammatory cytokine, IL-6 is highly active in triggering inflammation (Shahrivari et al., 2017), and thus, the inhibition of IL-6 can prevent adverse ventricular remodelling after MI (Jing et al., 2019).
